Achievements in 2019
In 2019, Wujiang District achieved a regional GDP of 201.3 billion yuan, an increase of 6% year-on-year (similarly hereinafter); a general public budget revenue of 22.3 billion yuan, an increase of 9.9%; a total industrial output value of 450 billion yuan, the output value of industrial enterprises above designated size being 360 billion yuan; and a fixed asset investment of 58.2 billion yuan, up by 1.4%.
The main economic indicators operated in a reasonable range and the quality and efficiency of economic development continued to improve. With greater integration into the Yangtze River Delta Economic Zone, the district achieved breakthroughs in its reform, with urban and rural environments and people’s livelihood continuously improving. Party building also was further strengthened.
Goals for 2020
Greater efforts will be made to improve the system and capacity for governance, optimize industrial structure to promote economic development, create a better living environment for people, promote the innovation-driven development of the culture industry and improve people’s livelihood.
The main goals for 2020 are as follows. The district’s GDP growth is expected to be about 6% and general public budget revenue growth to be about 7%. The fixed asset investment will keep growing. Total retail sales of consumer goods are expected to grow by about 4.5% and the total import and export volume to remain stable. The R&D spending is expected to account for about 3% of regional GDP, enterprises’ R&D investment to increase by about 10% and labor productivity to grow by about 5.5%. The industrial added value rate will be higher than in the previous year. The growth rate of per capita disposable income will surpass the growth rate of GDP. The registered urban unemployment rate will be controlled within 2.6%. Meanwhile, the district is expected to decrease its energy consumption per unit of GDP, to cut the total discharge of major pollutants and accomplish the pollution control targets set forth by the higher authorities, and to improve production safety and substantially decrease the number of accidents and death toll.
The 5th meeting of the 13th Suzhou Wujiang District Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) was held in the People’s Theater on the morning of Dec. 29, 2019. The meeting stressed holding high the great banner of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and earnestly implementing the spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress and that of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th plenary sessions of the 19th CPC Central Committee, conscientiously leaning the guidelines of the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping for the work of Jiangsu Province and fully carrying out the decisions and arrangements of the provincial and municipal Party committees.
The meeting reviewed the district’s work in 2019 and formulated work plans and targets for 2020. It mobilized Party organizations at all levels and urged all Party members, cadres and the masses to remain true to our original aspiration and keep our mission firmly in mind. It called for greater efforts to seize new strategic development opportunities to make greater achievements and write a new chapter in Wujiang’s high-quality development.
At 9 o’clock in the morning, the meeting was opened with a majestic performance of the national anthem. District Party Secretary Wang Qinghua, who was entrusted by the 13th CPC Suzhou Wujiang District Committee, delivered a work report.
Li Ming, deputy Party secretary and head of Wujiang district, presided over the meeting and announced its opening. Those who were seated in the front row of the rostrum included: Wang Yanhong, Le Jiang, Wang Yibing, Xu Xiaofeng, Fan Jianlong, Liu Wei, Li Weizhen, Yang Bin and Liu Feng. Of the 263 deputies due to attend the meeting, a total of 245 members were present at the meeting which accords with the quorum.
The closing ceremony of the meeting held in the afternoon was presided over by Wang Qinghua. The meeting heard and reviewed a report on the handling of proposals since the previous meeting and adopted by a show of hands a resolution on the issues deliberated on this time.
The meeting was closed amid the majestic sound of “The Internationale”.
